To Comment Simply on *silverb work I would have to go with the statement where art deco infuses with new age fractal art. His work instils the idea of simplicity while concentrating on the overlooked aspects of what makes fractal art. Whilst browsing his gallery in research for this article I noticed that a lot of his pieces are not completely symmetrical in every aspect whilst it is true that most of his pieces are vertically symmetrical they are not completely symmetrical in every aspect for instance with Engraved Chimera the piece is vertically symmetrical there is no horizontal symmetry or diagonal symmetry this gives his fractals a wonderful feel of breaking with the convention. I also noticed the way he makes his pieces feel like your not looking at a light show (As you feel with so many fractal artists) but rather looking at designs for sculptures delicately made out of beautifully colored glass and metal.
Chosen Pieces
Ive chosen To Bellerophon as the first piece Im going to write about because it exemplifies the feel of discordance and fracture that you see in so many of his later works. The Colors that you take for granted so often when viewing fractals are constantly changing as they pass through each section of the canvass this truly is an exemplary work of how fractals can be manipulated to break the convention of what a fractal should be (a technique that has so long been overlooked).
My second review will be on the work Atreas in Pieces. The piece reminds me of a rubixs cube that has yet to be solved and yes admittedly I did try to solve the problem of what would it look like if it wasnt organized in the manner that it was. The piece gives an unerring feeling of being disjointed like your Alice falling through the rabbit hole. The are also so many sensory traps in this pieces for instants the balls are shiny like polished glass but they look theyve been dragged straight out of a cartoon another of these traps that whilst all the boxes relate to the same shape they dont quite fit together if you try to mentally reorganize them and thus causes you to revaluate the piece because you believe it has to add up.
My third choice will be Alexanders Strategy this piece reminds me of inkblot pictures that show in some counseling session and the fact that its hidden behind the quite innocent exterior of a chess board adds to the layers of mystery which can be drawn from the title is he talking about chess or is he talking about something deeper hidden in the picture?
I feel this to be an aptly named piece for those of you who know of Greek mythology. The spiral to me looks like a set of stairs leading into darkness which gives the feeling of something being hidden deep inside. The piece reminds me of our dark nature as human beings that we hide secrets we feel to be scary or dangerous to others out of sight and thus I believe this to be an excellent reminder of this fact.
The Next piece ive chosen Hermetic Hermes because I feel this piece has caught excellently the idea and concept of madness as being so ordered but still so fractured in its actions and the way it affects people. The feel of this piece has a very abstract and broken feel that just adds perfectly to the sense of uncertainty and madness this piece exhibits.
The sixth and final piece ive chosen to write about is Acherons Flower. This piece just shines through as this truly wonderful. The simplistic shapes and gradient give this wonderful art deco feeling that is hard to shake as you study the piece in further detail. Because of the juxtaposing elements of grays and blacks the pieces gives of this wonderful smoky backroom vibe with gamblers playing poker. This piece whilst be inherently simplistic creates a wonderful atmosphere that sticks with me.
NOTE: The pieces ive written about are purely my favourites but there are many pieces in *silverbs gallery that are worthy of your time and attention.
